Bakers Self Adhesive Labels, Walthamstow, England, has announced the purchase of a Digicon Series 2 label converting line from AB Graphic International. In Bradford, The Label Makers has installed a Digicon Series 2 that it ordered at Labelexpo Americas in September. Baker’s system will be used to convert digitally printed labels, and complements an HP Indigo WS6000 digital press. The purchase is part of the company’s on-going strategy to be the top supplier of choice to trade printers for the digital label market. “After increasing our digital capacity by investing in the UK’s first HP WS6000 last year, we quickly realized that there was a growing demand for much larger labels with multiple texts that ideally suited digital printing,” says Managing Director Steve Baker. “We are also aware that standard digital labels are fast becoming a commodity item with the profit per job suffering accordingly. Our trade customers will now benefit from being able to offer extended length digitally printed labels with extra decorative options such as hot foiling, rotary embossing and other features while maintaining reasonable profit levels. The investment will also provide the opportunity for trade Ccustomers to enter new market segments such as digitally printed labels for paint cans, large tubs, wrap labels and larger sheet designs.” The Omega Digicon Series 2 specification has oversized cylinders allowing up to 647mm repeats for larger labels. Additional features include corona treater, two flexo printing stations with UV curing, an over laminating module, and a rotary embossing unit. The Digicon Series 2 label converting line at The Label Makers, Bradford includes flatbed hot foiling, cold foiling, embossing, a screen module and two UV flexo units. “The combination of digital printing and the Digicon finishing line means we can truly satisfy customer requirements for premium quality short-run work at competitive rates,” says David Webster, managing director of The Label Makers. “The market is requiring greater flexibility from its supply base with shorter and variable print runs, and our investment in the Digicon converting system means we have the facility to deliver the expectations of our customers irrespective of run length.” A long established manufacturer of label converting systems, AB Graphic International operates worldwide basis from its UK headquarters in Bridlington, England. The company provides sales and support globally through a network of established distributors and its facilities in the USA, France, Germany, Spain, and The Netherlands.
